Personally, I really hope this film does not let us down. Ghost in the Shell is such a prized series that if this film gets messed up, Hollywood will have another black eye in terms of the adaptation department. That being said, the director of the original Ghost in the Shell movies, Mamoru Oshii, popped in the movie production to see how things were going. You can see what he had to say about the movie in the brief interview below:

Saying that Scarlett Johansson has gone “above and beyond my expectations for the role” says a lot about the quality of what we can expect. For the original director to say that he is impressed hopefully bodes well for the future. The real question is, will it still hold up for the fans or will it be cast aside to the science fiction garbage can alongside other titles such as Jupiter Ascending or the remake of Total Recall? One way or another, we will find out on the release on March 31, 2017.
