Bad news for fans of World Trigger. There were bad signs last week when fans found that the series was missing from last week’s issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine and apparently the issue from last week has not yet been resolved. It seems that series creator Daisuke Ashihara has been rendered unable to work due to issues with his personal health.

While it’s certainly sad to hear that Daisuke Ashihara is in a state where his health is keeping him from work, it’s not entirely surprising as the creator has had issues with his health in the past. Fans might remember that back in September of 2014, Ashihara had to take a week hiatus due to his need for treatment on the nerve roots that have been affected by gradual damage around the neck region of his spinal column (also known as cervical spondylosis).

Since that first incident, Ashihara has taken multiple one week hiatuses that have been due to sudden illness. The unfortunate part to this hiatus is that we haven’t been given a timeframe for when to expect the series to return. A shame on its own but even more so because it begs the questions of just how serious Ashihara’s condition or illness is.

World Trigger began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in February of 2013. Since then, the series has released 16 volumes of the manga. An anime adaptation to the series was later released as part of the Fall 2014 anime season. The anime ran over the course of three seasons for a total of seventy-three episodes. Crunchyroll simulcast the episodes as they aired overseas and currently has the entirety of the series available to stream. For those unfamiliar, Crunchyroll describes the series:

One day, a gate to another world opened in Mikado City. Invaders from another dimension, referred to thereafter as Neighbors, overran the area around the gate, leaving the city gripped by fear. However, a mysterious group suddenly appeared and repelled the Neighbors. This Border Defense Agency independently researches Neighbor technology and fights to protect this world. In a short time, they managed to build an enormous base and prepare a defensive system against the Neighbors. it’s been four years since then.
