Monday’s are usually garbage but I find myself pretty happy on this particular Monday. Naturally so, as the second season of Kono Subarashii Sekai Ni Shukufuku Wo! (known forth as Konosuba) has had it’s premiere date confirmed! The second season of the fantasy, comedy, trapped-in-a-game series will premiere January 12th of 2017 at 1:05 AM JST.

Konosuba

All of the voice actors (seiyu) for the main cast of Kazuma, Aqua, Megumin, and Darkness have been confirmed to be returning along with Wiz and Yunyun (who was only featured in the OVA). While no plans have been announced regarding the simulcasting of the series, there’s not a doubt in my mind that we will see the series picked up by the Crunchyroll/FUNimation conglomerate.

Konosuba was something of a hidden gem to me when it aired as part of the Winter 2016 anime season. I’d read the premise and wondered if I really needed another story about a gamer being trapped in a game world or something akin to a game world after watching .HackSword Art OnlineLog Horizon, and Overlord. (You argue I had watched too many already.) Hell, it wasn’t even the only show in the season with that setting, Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash pitched it too.

Konosuba proved that one shouldn’t jump to conclusion and it ended up being one of our favorite series’ of the season. So we were of course excited to hear that the series would be getting a second season, that the second season would air as part of the Winter 2017 season, and have been waiting for news on the series every day since.

The first season of KonoSuba had a 10 episode run with an OVA included on the series’ Blu-ray release. Crunchyroll simulcast the series as it aired and, at the time of writing, the series is available to stream on Crunchyroll to premium and free members. For those unfamiliar, Crunchyroll describes the series:

After a traffic accident, Kazuma Sato’s disappointingly brief life was supposed to be over, but he wakes up to see a beautiful girl before him. She claims to be a goddess, Aqua, and asks if he would like to go to another world and bring only one thing with him. Kazuma decides to bring the goddess herself, and they are transported to a fantasy world filled with adventure, ruled by a demon king. Now Kazuma only wants to live in peace, but Aqua wants to solve many of this world’s problems, and the demon king will only turn a blind eye for so long…
