Tokyo Ghoul is getting a live action film. The film is set to premiere on July 29, but Anime Expo attendees will have the opportunity to see the world premiere on July 2. According to the page on the Anime Expo website, Tokyo Ghoul is restricted to 18+ attendees with wristbands “due to mature content.” The manga and the anime are notoriously gory, so it’s safe to assume that the film adaptation will be as well.
This premiere is particularly noteworthy for Anime Expo. The convention has previously been home to world premieres for animated films, but Tokyo Ghoul is the first live-action film to receive a world premiere at the increasingly popular convention.
Tokyo Ghoul will feature Masataka Kubota as Ken Kaneki. Fans of Death Note may remember him as Light Yagami from the live-action series. Fumika Shimizu, Yu Aoi, Nobuyuki Suzuki, and Yo Oizumi will also appear in the film. Check out the poster below.
Anime Expo will take place in Los Angeles July 1 through July 4. Tokyo Ghoul will premiere on Sunday, July 2 at 7:30 PM. For more information on the showing, check out the Anime Expo website.Tweet
