Bokksu November 2016 Unboxing and Review

This week we received a new subscription box from a company we have yet to come across, Bokksu. Bokksu, which comes in a little orange box, has a bit of a different perspective on the whole Japanese subscription box fad. Much like Snakku, they focus mainly on providing snacks that people from Japan actually eat. Not just your run-of-the-mill plethora that can be purchased from a corner store, Bokksu pairs this with a theme and a tea. Yes, that’s right, a tea. Out of all the others we have reviewed in the past, this is the first one to have a tea paring. So from that perspective is pretty neat....

Mamoru Oshii Gives Ghost in the Shell Movie His Blessing

Personally, I really hope this film does not let us down. Ghost in the Shell is such a prized series that if this film gets messed up, Hollywood will have another black eye in terms of the adaptation department. That being said, the director of the original Ghost in the Shell movies, Mamoru Oshii, popped in the movie production to see how things were going. You can see what he had to say about the movie in the brief interview below: Saying that Scarlett Johansson has gone “above and beyond my expectations for the role” says a lot about the quality of what we can expect. For the original director to say that he...

Say Hello To The Death Note PPAP Version You Didn’t Know You Wanted

In what can only be described as a bizarre internet obsession (let’s be honest here, there are all a little bizarre), “Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen” has taken the world by storm. The original artist PIKOTARO, released his video back in August. The original has amassed over 80 million in video views. So it was only a matter of time before a marketing team adopted it to capitalized on the recent phenomenon. Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on who you are), the team behind the new live-action Death Note movie (called Death Note Light up the New World) thought it would be a great idea to have Ryuk perform the track. If you thought the original one was...

BentoByte Artist Spotlight: Ananda Beats

Whether you are aware of it or not, but Denver Colorado is a little hot bed of music. From our world famous Red Rocks Amphitheater to the dark and dirty venues of the High-Dive and Larimer Lounge, there are a lot of opportunities to see new music. This time around though we are going to focus on one of them, Ananda Beats. Ananda is a local producer who utilizes Japanese influences to create his mellow tracks (if you couldn’t already tell by the use of the Kitsune masks). His tracks have all been low key and chill trap tracks in the past, and with his latest single “Only Us” nothing...

Artist Spotlight: daydreamer

For those still jazzed about the “Shelter” animation, have we got a treat for you this week. Meet daydreamer, an artist that has a similar style to Porter Robinson. This airy synthpop/electro will surely take you on a journey for the brief 6 songs that are on the “Senses” EP. Check it out below: Now daydreamer also does few remixes, I would not necessarily recommend a few of them (there is a lot of sections where you can hear elements of the track clipping which could be a stylistic thing), but a really fun one is his(her?) remix of Madeon below: What did you all think? Let us know in...
