The Ramen Chart – Your Guide to Must-Haves Before You Die

Throughout the years of being interested and invested with Japanese culture, people often develop a striking curiosity when it comes to ramen. They want to try it all. Therefore, this causes most people to venture out from your I’m-incredibly-broke-Maruchan to try the real deal. At this point most ramen enthusiasts have tried one if not all the ramen shops within their respective home towns. The only next logical step is the biggest one of all, getting ramen in Japan. But where to start? What are the different kinds? And where can you find the best ones? This is where the work of one woman, Fanny Chu, comes into play. Meet Fanny...

Anime Expo 2016 Thoughts & Impressions

Anime Expo 2016 was the first Anime Expo I have been able to attend and I have to say upfront that it was not quite like anything I’ve experienced. I’ve been to plenty of conventions and thought I understood what I was getting into when I booked my flight to Los Angeles. Much like everyone’s favorite bastard, I learned that I knew nothing. Except that Anime Expo is the largest anime convention by attendance in all of North America. I didn’t quite grasp the just what that meant until I made my way to the Los Angeles Convention Center. I’d say that many other conventions I attended had rivers of fans making their...

The Day 4 Cosplayers of Anime Expo 2016

This has taken us quite some time. As far as conventions go, Anime Expo has certainly been the longest one of all. But it has been a fun one. Although we must say goodbye to Los Angeles, at the very least, we get to see some more last minute cosplay. So here they all are, the final installment of our Anime Expo cosplay coverage. As always, if you are one of these lovely people and would like a copy of your image send us an email over at info@bentobyte.co. And that is it for this year! Going to be at Anime Expo next year? Be sure to come find us...

The Day 3 Cosplayers of Anime Expo 2016

Well, that certainly took a while to process all of the pictures from day 3 of Anime Expo! Now that they are ready, get a look at all the beautiful people (and cosplay) we met while running about. As always, if you would like a higher resolution version of the image we took, send us an email over at our contact us section or at info@bentobyte.co. And on top of that, some of the photos didn’t turn out so if we met and we were not able to include your photo, we are very sorry.     Killer job everyone. This is only part 3 of our 4 part series...

Exploring the Academic Panels of Anime Expo 2016

There are a lot of things to do at Anime Expo, which takes places every year around the 4th of July. You can wander the hallways and admire some beautiful cosplay, shop for some cool and exclusive merchandise, or visit any number of panels covering a variety of subjects. Last year, I spent a lot of my time covering industry panels, but this year I decided that I wanted to do something different. If you’ve never been to Anime Expo before, the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA) who operates the convention started a new initiative in 2011. The goal of which was to bring academic discussion to an otherwise pop...

The Video Games of Anime Expo 2016

Last year when I visited Anime Expo, I didn’t have the time to set down and play the video games on display because my focus was on attending panels. For Anime Expo 2016, I decided to correct that mistake, and so I set out to play as many of the games on display as possible. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get to all of them, but I played as many as I could. Many of them had short demos, which would cut you off after a certain period of time, so I didn’t get the full experience. Rather than go through and preview each and every game individually, I thought it would be...

The Beginner’s Guide to Anime Expo

So you’re thinking about attending Anime Expo for the first time, huh? While it can seem a bit overwhelming first, especially if you’ve never been to any other conventions, it’s actually not too bad. The goal of this guide is largely to give new attendees tips for their journey to the Los Angeles Convention Center over the 4th of July weekend, but veterans might find some use with this guide as well. So, let’s get into it. The Basics What is Anime Expo? Anime Expo is the largest anime convention in the United States, having reached 100,000 attendees in 2016. The convention typically takes place in Los Angeles at the Los...

The Day 2 Cosplayers of Anime Expo 2016

We have finally arrived at our second installment of pictures from this year’s Anime Expo. At day 2 of the prolific con we stumbled across robots, vampires, and monsters (both the digital and ecchi kind), oh my! Check them all out below! And if you are one of the following cosplayers and would like a copy of your picture feel free to send us an email at our “contact us” section. Which were your favorites? Let us know! And if you would like to get involved with us or have suggestions on what conventions we should cover, please give us a shout!

The Day 1 Cosplayers of Anime Expo 2016

Every year we try to run about and meet as many people as possible at conventions and get shots of the spectacular outfits they work so hard on. While attending our second year at the Los Angeles Anime Expo we managed to meet just a few folks on our first day (sorry, blame the airlines for the delays). But without further ado, here they are! We will be posting these on our facebook page as well later on, so be sure to tag yourself in them! And if you would like high res images please message us at our “contact us” section. We would be happy to work something out....

The Day 3 Cosplayers of Denver Comic Con 2016

The last installment of this three part series of pictures from the Denver Comic Con will be shorter (we promise). At the final day of DCC 2016, the outdoors hit a hundred (which is a lot in Colorado) and those that were not baking outside were indoors, drinking and showing off their cosplay. Conveniently, is also what we do best.  We were not able to remember the names of everything and everyone in this album, so if there is something we missed, leave us a comment. So nice we put it in twice. As always, if you are one of the cosplayers in this album and would like a higher...

The Day 2 Cosplayers of Denver Comic Con 2016

And we are back in the second of three installments of cosplay photos from this year’s Denver Comic Con. It is going to be a huge post (around 90 or so images) so bear with us. We refuse to be one of those “slideshow” sites in order to get more clicks. At any rate, if we met you on Saturday during Denver Comic Con there is a high chance we snagged a photo of you (unless you were cosplaying as Morgan and Jedah Dohma from Darkstalkers, sorry those didn’t turn out)! Check out all the photos below. And always, if you are one of the cosplayers below, and would like a...

The Denver Comic Con 2016 Day 1 Cosplayers

It is that time of year again. While attending this year’s Denver Comic Con we did our best to run about and get as many cosplay photos as humanly possible. As we were not able to make it to the whole first day, this album will be short. Fear not, this is only the first of three collections of pictures that we took. If you are one of the following cosplayers and would like a higher resolution image of your cosplay be sure to hit us up at our contact us section! Now, without further ado, see the cosplayers we met at day one below!   EDIT, Sorry we forgot...

Japan Funbox Review

Recently, we received a box from Japan Funbox to review. Like the other boxes we have received, this one has expanded due to our offices being at higher elevation. The packaging is nothing terribly spectacular, just a simple logo on the side. However, inside contained a few things that we have yet to tangle with, which is a treat for us. If you have tried enough of these, after a certain point it becomes more about the variety of products than it is about consistency. Much like the other subscription box companies, Japan Funbox has three levels of boxes that range from the Mini at $14.99 a month to the Family box at...
