Chattin’ with Chris Patton

While attending the 2016 Nan Desu Kan in Denver, CO we met up with a favorite voice actor of ours, Chris Patton. Sorry for the potato quality everyone, we forgot to bring our tripod with us and the camera had a difficult time focusing. Next time we will be sure that the quality is higher. Is there anyone you think we should interview? Send us a message or leave us a comment! We don’t mind asking the offhanded questions.

Top Ten Cosplays of NDK 2016

Nan Desu Kan, or NDK, was my highlight of the Denver Con season for the year once again. To date, I’ve never been disappointed in my time spent at NDK nor the time I spent with the people I’ve met while attending. Most notably, the fantastic crowd of cosplayers in attendance. Once again, NDK 2016 was a time to shine for both local cosplayers local and those cosplayers that traveled from far away to attend. I loved all the cosplays I saw, I have to admit there were some I liked more than others. Due to aspects such as the uniqueness, nostalgia, or effort in construction, these were cosplays that truly stuck...

The Day 2 Cosplayers of NDK 2016

As we get through processing several photos (this can take a little bit of time) here are the folks we met while at day 2 of NDK 2016.   As our website has a 8 megabyte threshold these aren’t the high res versions of the pictures. So if you are one of these cosplayers and want a copy send us an email over at the contact us section.

The Day 1 Cosplayers of NDK 2016

Over the labor day weekend, a few of the BentoByte staff made their way through the streets of Denver to conduct interviews and take pictures of the cosplayers who were at NDK 2016. For those who aren’t aware, Nan Desu Kan (or NDK 2016 for short) is the largest anime convention on this side of the Rocky Mountains. So without further ado, here are the folks we met on the first day. As our website has a 8 megabyte threshold these aren’t the high res versions of the pictures. So if you are one of these cosplayers and want a copy send us an email over at the contact us...

BentoByte Will Be At Nan Desu Kan 2016

Hello everyone! As you all may have surmised at this point, we are constantly going to cons (as is evident with our cosplay photos). This labor day weekend we (a few of us) will be at Denver’s Nan Desu Kan. So if you think you are going to be there as well, be sure to come find us. As with most of the conventions we go to, we will be wearing our BentoByte blue shirts and conducting interviews as well as taking cosplay photos. Unlike other years though, our interviews won’t exclusively be just with the guests who are attending the cons. This time, we are also going to be...

Mario Appears in Promo for 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games

Before we dip into the content here, I have a spiel for you. If you don’t want it and just want the news about the 2020 games in Tokyo, skip down to the bold text. Here at BentoByte, we try to cultivate a culture of understanding and curiosity when it comes to cultures there are different from are own. We believe understanding different perspectives is not only something that is important in modern society, it’s a path towards a sort of global empathy that the world desperately needs. That being said, every two years there comes a certain unique time. A time of fun and thoughtless pride in one’s country. A time...

The Ramen Chart – Your Guide to Must-Haves Before You Die

Throughout the years of being interested and invested with Japanese culture, people often develop a striking curiosity when it comes to ramen. They want to try it all. Therefore, this causes most people to venture out from your I’m-incredibly-broke-Maruchan to try the real deal. At this point most ramen enthusiasts have tried one if not all the ramen shops within their respective home towns. The only next logical step is the biggest one of all, getting ramen in Japan. But where to start? What are the different kinds? And where can you find the best ones? This is where the work of one woman, Fanny Chu, comes into play. Meet Fanny...

Anime Expo 2016 Thoughts & Impressions

Anime Expo 2016 was the first Anime Expo I have been able to attend and I have to say upfront that it was not quite like anything I’ve experienced. I’ve been to plenty of conventions and thought I understood what I was getting into when I booked my flight to Los Angeles. Much like everyone’s favorite bastard, I learned that I knew nothing. Except that Anime Expo is the largest anime convention by attendance in all of North America. I didn’t quite grasp the just what that meant until I made my way to the Los Angeles Convention Center. I’d say that many other conventions I attended had rivers of fans making their...

The Day 4 Cosplayers of Anime Expo 2016

This has taken us quite some time. As far as conventions go, Anime Expo has certainly been the longest one of all. But it has been a fun one. Although we must say goodbye to Los Angeles, at the very least, we get to see some more last minute cosplay. So here they all are, the final installment of our Anime Expo cosplay coverage. As always, if you are one of these lovely people and would like a copy of your image send us an email over at info@bentobyte.co. And that is it for this year! Going to be at Anime Expo next year? Be sure to come find us...

The Day 3 Cosplayers of Anime Expo 2016

Well, that certainly took a while to process all of the pictures from day 3 of Anime Expo! Now that they are ready, get a look at all the beautiful people (and cosplay) we met while running about. As always, if you would like a higher resolution version of the image we took, send us an email over at our contact us section or at info@bentobyte.co. And on top of that, some of the photos didn’t turn out so if we met and we were not able to include your photo, we are very sorry.     Killer job everyone. This is only part 3 of our 4 part series...

Exploring the Academic Panels of Anime Expo 2016

There are a lot of things to do at Anime Expo, which takes places every year around the 4th of July. You can wander the hallways and admire some beautiful cosplay, shop for some cool and exclusive merchandise, or visit any number of panels covering a variety of subjects. Last year, I spent a lot of my time covering industry panels, but this year I decided that I wanted to do something different. If you’ve never been to Anime Expo before, the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA) who operates the convention started a new initiative in 2011. The goal of which was to bring academic discussion to an otherwise pop...

The Video Games of Anime Expo 2016

Last year when I visited Anime Expo, I didn’t have the time to set down and play the video games on display because my focus was on attending panels. For Anime Expo 2016, I decided to correct that mistake, and so I set out to play as many of the games on display as possible. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get to all of them, but I played as many as I could. Many of them had short demos, which would cut you off after a certain period of time, so I didn’t get the full experience. Rather than go through and preview each and every game individually, I thought it would be...
