Music in Anime 5/20/16

Well I can honestly say that it has been an incredibly long time since I have done a music in anime piece. But here we go! Below are a few moments in anime where the music has really sparked/invoked some great emotions. FLCL At this point, the FLCL it is pretty much unanimously considered one of the best (if not the best) soundtracks across the history of anime. The original soundtrack has multitudes of great tracks by the Pillows, but the one that really captured my attention was “Beautiful Morning With You.” This track was used as a catalyst into really big events that left a huge imprint, thus leaving all of us...

MISSIO, Your New Favorite Alt Electronic Duo

From the streets of Austin, TX comes our newest featured artist, MISSIO. They are an alternative electronic group that has a lot of dark elements infused into their sound. In a current point in time where similar artists like Chet Faker, Autre Ne Veut, and XYLØ it is a welcomed addition to an ever expanding subsection of this sub-genre. Check out the track “I Don’t Even Care About You” below: Although the duo (comprising of Matthew Brue and David Butler) haven’t released an EP or a full studio album, the future looks bright. With six singles having been released to date (okay two of them are covers, shush you), it is enough...

Bombs Away, the Comedians of Melbourne Bounce

Once again, we are going to take a moment away from our typical writing to go over some of the music and pop culture things we thin people should check out. This week, we want to show off the DJ due Bombs Away. Now every has obviously heard of the popular internet sensation “Damn Daniel” at this point. Teddyloid and the World Outside of Vocaloid EDM

Every once and a while we like to feature new (or sometimes older) tunes, artists, and things that we have found online. This week is the producer and remix artist Teddyloid. Teddyloid is an artist that is hard to ignore, especially with work such as “Me!Me!Me!” and his additions to the Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt soundtrack. All of that aside, Teddyloid is a particularly great artist outside of the bubble of the anime subculture. Which in terms of music, is filled with vocaloids and EDM remixes paying homage to classic anime. From a regular electronic dance music enthusiast standpoint, his other tracks are phenomenal. This has never been more prevalent and true...

Timbre: Sun and Moon

Much to the delight of her cult following, last April Timbre Cierpke released the two part album, Sun and Moon. While this fantastic journey ranges from full-on rock moments to ones that are completely classical, it isn’t for everyone. But those who appreciate it will likely treasure it forever. The album commences with an instrumental which builds haunting tension, blossoming wonderfully into “Song of the Sun.” When I hear this tune, I feel as though I’ve recently escaped the dungeons of an unjust ruler to be greeted by troubadors with voices and instruments possessing healing powers. The lyrics, instrumentation, and various back-up vocals intertwine well to enchant. “Your Hands Hold Home” takes...

Grimes, The Eccentric and Modern Art Angel

Back in the world of music, the artist Grimes released a new music video today to accompany her latest album, Art Angels. I will admit, Grimes isn’t for everyone but she is exceptionally brilliant and is definitely one of the individuals who manages to push the boundaries in terms of music. In doing so, deserves a significant amount of recognition. On top of being an exceptional producer, she is also a very vocal and strong independent individual. But I will touch on that later. For now, give some of her tunes a quick listen below. Here is the newly released video “Kill v. Maim” Grimes first piqued my interest back when...

Gunship, Synthwave with Fantastic Visuals

Yesterday on reddit, redditor u/Ivan_Zypher posted a link to a video that began a flurry of nostalgia and video binges. What caused of all this was a music video from the group Gunship. Gunship is a synthwave group consisting of three members: Dan Haigh, Alex Westaway, and Alex Gingell. They take themes like cyberpunk, 80’s synths and tones, and airy vocals to create music self described as: a neon soaked, late night, sonic getaway drive, dripping with luscious analog synthesizers, cinematic vocals and cyberpunk values, exploding from the front cover of a dusty plastic VHS case which has lain forgotten since 1984 So based on the description alone, you know you are...

Shawn Wasabi: Midi Fighter Extrodinare

It is a little sad to say that in an EDM world filled with massive DJ’s playing the bulk of everything on CDJs or mixers, you have to dive a bit deeper in order to experience artists with amazing creativity and talent. Fortunately, if you are too lazy but still want some suggestions in this department outside of Robert Delong or Nev, have we got a treat for you. Meet Shawn Wasabi, an artist who performs mashups and live tracks all through the use of various DJ TechTools Midi Fighters. Although he typically just utilizes the Midi Fighter, he also has performed with everything from live guitars to Playstation and Xbox controllers....

New Fresh Remix From Marshmello and Jauz

As we slowly approach the holiday break some people will need a few pick me ups here and there. And what a better way than a clutch remix from Jauz and Marshmello? For those who pay attention to the EDM world Marshmello and Jauz are soaring in popularity. Marshmello’s most recent popular remix was of Adele’s “Hello” is phenomenal, which we would highly recommend checking out. As for Jauz, he has done some impressive genre blending left and right. We have also included a few remixes of his below. But without further ado, below is their recent remix of the famed track “Need You 100%” by Duke Dumont. Below is...

Nero Music Video References Ghost in the Shell

For those who don’t already listen to Nero, they are an incredible group (and I mean group, the music is live with a singer). Their use of dubstep, drum and bass, and electro with themes of dystopian futures in their lyrics really makes them stand out when compared to the typical EDM crowd. The video below is the track “Into the Night” off their latest album Beyond II Worlds which dropped on September 11th, 2015.  Check out the animated video below and catch the reference to Ghost in the Shell. With the use of a neo/cyberpunk Tokyo as the setting, the presence of androids, and the girl with blue hair and red...

Artist Highlight: Y2K Hits Us With A Few Chill Remixes

At some point there will be a name for posts like these, but in the meantime we want to highlight another artist, Y2K. For those that are into the trap/chill sub-genre music, Y2K does a really remix of the popular song PON PON PON by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. For those who loved the absolute ridiculous nature of the original PON PON PON music video, this is a great rendition that provides a nice modern feel to the Kawaii culture 2011 hit. Now this is just a snapshot of his music overall, as he has tons of chill tunes. We have included a few of our favorites below: If you like what you...

For those who remember hits like “Crawl,” this is a great addition to their catalog of music.  If you are new to Veltpunch and like...
