Flying Witch Volume 1 Review

The comforting warmth and peace prevalent in The Flying Witch is exactly what I expect from a slice of life manga. The unbound sincerity coupled with the slow pace is what I imagine what life would be like in a quiet rural town, which, Flying Witch captures perfectly. The experience of reading Flying Witch is almost like laying in a bed of flowers, surrounded by bunnies in an open field on the most beautiful Spring day. Life in the country can get a bit dull, but what better way to have some fun than by throwing in some MAGIC! The story follows Makoto Kowata, a young girl who has “come into age”...

The Tamago Poster – Your Guide to the Various Uses of the Egg

Occasionally we receive requests from various kickstarters to feature products. To be honest, most of the time we ignore them. However, on the very few occasions one does pique our interest we feel the need to mention something about it. A while back we introduced Fanny Chu, a foodie based in California who is currently on a quest to find the best food within Asian culture and to educate everyone in a fun and visual manner. She has compiled and designed several posters (which have all been successful on Kickstarter) that highlight these various foods and classifications. Of the ones we have seen, she has done one on where she thinks the...

Blame! Master Edition Volume 3 Review

Compared to Nihei’s Knights of Sidonia series, Blame! is on a completely different level. The best way I could describe Blame! would be to call it Knights of Sidonia‘s visceral older brother. If all the death and destruction that was brought about in that series was up your alley, then Blame! volume 3 is going to take that one step further. This volume continued the blood soaked path that our protagonists have experienced up until this point. It isn’t quite on the same level as something like Berserk but it still maintains it’s high level of violence throughout the entire book. Despite the story in volume two, volume three took things in an interesting direction with the concept of time dilation and...

Blame! Master Edition Volume 2 Review

Before we start anything out, we are going to mention some things about the Master Edition of Blame!. This master edition of the series is certainly that: a masterful rendition of the popular manga. It is heavy, the color and feel of the large book is incredible. If you are a collector of special editions of books, then this certainly needs to be added to your collection (unless you aren’t into science fiction violence). Now that we’ve covered that, let’s dive into the actual meat and bones of the manga. I know I shouldn’t have to put this in here but, this review contains spoilers for the first and second volume of the manga. You...

To The Abandoned Sacred Beasts Volume 3 Review

Volume 2 of To The Abandoned Sacred Beasts  certainly left the reader with quite the cliffhanger; Cain Madhouse had unleashed a horde of incarnates on the nobles of Northern Patria in the city of Whitechurch, Nancy was shot by Cain at that same gathering, and Hank revealed his true incarnate form after seeing Nancy shot by Cain. It was truly a night to remember in Whitechurch. So I was elated when I was able to finally pick up To The Abandoned Sacred Beasts Volume 3 and see just where this crazy night would take us. Except it didn’t quite do that. To The Abandoned Sacred Beasts Volume 3 picks up a full year after the...

Arby’s is Killing the Anime Marketing Game

Now we can’t tell whether or not there is one really bored dude, a huge fan, or both. Either way, the sandwich fast food joint Arby’s has been killing it at their marketing recently. You may remember Arby’s notoriety pop up via the Nihilist Arby’s twitter a while back. Well now it appears we have a huge anime fan is a part of their creative team. It appears that Arby’s is back on the notoriety train. Over the past year they have launched several marketing images on their Facebook page that can be seen below (most recent of which has involved JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure): And to finish it off, with my...

20 Questions: The Erica Mendez Edition

While in attendance at Colorado Anime Fest 2017, we were graced by the talent of Erica Mendez. So graceful was she that we were allowed not only the opportunity to interview her, but film said interview. Observe with your very eyes said interview! On a serious note, Erica Mendez was an absolute pleasure to work with. Very professional but extremely kind at the same time. It truly was a privilege to get the opportunity to sit down with her and chat the way we did. So I’d like to say thank you to the organizers at Colorado Anime Fest, Erica, and to those of you who took the time to watch...

We Watched Ghost in the Shell (2017) So You Don’t Have To

After much deliberation and discussions between the other writers and friends, we have finally come to a conclusion about how to feel about the new American version of Ghost in the Shell. Before reading on I should warn you that this review contains major spoilers to the film. But if you’re alright with that, then proceed on. And if you haven’t seen the 1995 film of the same name then what the hell are you doing here, stop, and do yourself a favor and go watch the original. First things first, this review isn’t going to put the movie in a positive light. Overall, I would give the movie around a 50%....

New Live-Action Fullmetal Alchemist Trailer Released

Today on the official website for the upcoming live-action Fullmetal Alchemist movie came the release of a new trailer. This trailer gives us just a peek at the forbidden transmutation circle that notoriously sets the events of Fullmetal Alchemist into motion. With a bit more insight into the CG that is being employed I’ll hold my breath on the quality of the movie. Only time will tell as to whether or not this will be an alright adaptation for the beloved series. Below is a the announcement tweet: UPDATE A second trailer (essentially a mirror of the very first one) has been released as well. This one has some very subtle differences...
