Arby’s is Killing the Anime Marketing Game

Now we can’t tell whether or not there is one really bored dude, a huge fan, or both. Either way, the sandwich fast food joint Arby’s has been killing it at their marketing recently. You may remember Arby’s notoriety pop up via the Nihilist Arby’s twitter a while back. Well now it appears we have a huge anime fan is a part of their creative team. It appears that Arby’s is back on the notoriety train. Over the past year they have launched several marketing images on their Facebook page that can be seen below (most recent of which has involved JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure): And to finish it off, with my...

Bokksu January 2017 Unboxing and Review

A new year, a new year of snack boxes from Bokksu! Fortunately for subscribers, Bokksu is kicking the year off with a really solid box. The theme for January 2017 box is “Maru”, which translates to “circle” in Japan. Maru is associated with “goodness” in Japan, so Bokksu decided to ship a box full of goodness straight to us. In case video reviews are more your speed, you can check out our video review on the BentoByte YouTube channel. All that being said, let’s dive in! The Natural Yeast Bread Hokkaido Cream is about as much of a mouth-full as the name of the snack. This pastry roll was absolutely...

December 2016 Bokksu Review

Gotta say, I’m a big fan of the kind people over at Bokksu. They’ve sent us yet another of their Japanese sweets boxes, this one being the December 2016 box. As we’ve mentioned before, Bokksu is a little different in that the focus of the box is to send you sweets and treats from specific regions in Japan. Less focus on what you may find anywhere in the country, more Mom & Pop sweet shop sorts of snacks. So without further delay, let’s jump on in to the review. One more small delay though. I have to mention this every time we get a box from Bokksu; the box and...

Bokksu November 2016 Unboxing and Review

This week we received a new subscription box from a company we have yet to come across, Bokksu. Bokksu, which comes in a little orange box, has a bit of a different perspective on the whole Japanese subscription box fad. Much like Snakku, they focus mainly on providing snacks that people from Japan actually eat. Not just your run-of-the-mill plethora that can be purchased from a corner store, Bokksu pairs this with a theme and a tea. Yes, that’s right, a tea. Out of all the others we have reviewed in the past, this is the first one to have a tea paring. So from that perspective is pretty neat....

The Ramen Chart – Your Guide to Must-Haves Before You Die

Throughout the years of being interested and invested with Japanese culture, people often develop a striking curiosity when it comes to ramen. They want to try it all. Therefore, this causes most people to venture out from your I’m-incredibly-broke-Maruchan to try the real deal. At this point most ramen enthusiasts have tried one if not all the ramen shops within their respective home towns. The only next logical step is the biggest one of all, getting ramen in Japan. But where to start? What are the different kinds? And where can you find the best ones? This is where the work of one woman, Fanny Chu, comes into play. Meet Fanny...

Japan Funbox Review

Recently, we received a box from Japan Funbox to review. Like the other boxes we have received, this one has expanded due to our offices being at higher elevation. The packaging is nothing terribly spectacular, just a simple logo on the side. However, inside contained a few things that we have yet to tangle with, which is a treat for us. If you have tried enough of these, after a certain point it becomes more about the variety of products than it is about consistency. Much like the other subscription box companies, Japan Funbox has three levels of boxes that range from the Mini at $14.99 a month to the Family box at...

Snakku February 2016 Unboxing and Review

So this past month we received a particularly different box than ones we had received. We touched on it in the unboxing video below: The Review Now to kick this off right, I want to mention how the package was received. The box itself was covered and tied neatly in the handkerchief (called Furoshiki) in the video. This alone goes to show the hand made work that went into preparing this Japanese candy subscription box. Now the arrangement and contents inside certainly reflected that of a Harry and David gift box, which by no means is a bad thing. What is special about Snakku, when compared to its’ competitors, is that...

Tokyo Treat Japanese Candy February Unboxing and Review

This month we received a subscription box from Tokyo Treat. Being that it was February and the month which includes Valentines day, there were a lot of Valentines day themed candy involved. Check out the unboxing video below: The Unboxing The Review Now to kick things off, I was wrong. Not everything within the box was Strawberry flavored (obviously not the potato rings or taco flavored chips). Namely, the taffy style candy at the end was actually plum flavored candy. Each of the various candies were distinct enough to provide quite a variety of flavors. The red bean flavored beverage was definitely something different to behold. If you could imagine drinking...

January Skoshbox Unboxing [Video]

This month we received a new subscription box(es, there were two) from the crew over at Skoshbox. For those who are not aware, Skoshbox was and is the very first Japanese candy subscription box to hit the United States market. And as a few things have changed since our initial review, we try to showcase what is different with these. S0 without further ado, check out the Skoshbox Unboxing video below: For the overall value, Skoshbox is another great option to consider when looking for a Japanese subscription candy service. Our favorite aspect (asides from the lovely packaging) was knowing exactly what was in the box with the informative labels and...

Wowbox Tasting

As promised, we dragged our friends over to try out the various types of candy and snacks that come in the Wowbox by Mogmog. From freeze-dried drumsticks, to do it yourself pudding, the Wowbox offered a plethora of various goodies which we then proceeded to get our friends to try it all. We had a ton of fun trying it all out. And although we did not try the pudding in the video itself, we will have an additional video where Emily is going to make and try it out sometime next week. If you want a Wowbox of your own, head here! Disclaimer: A box was provided by Mogmog to BentoByte...

Wowbox by Mogmog Unboxing

Over the past couple of weeks we were contacted by Mogmog to try out their newest product, a subscription box by the name of Wowbox. As is said in the video, there are three options to choose from: Now the Wowbox by Mogmog has certainly differentiated themselves from the competition. Each of the boxes only start at $14.99 month which is a steal when you take into consideration how much time and effort it would take to procure all this delicious candy on your own. Interested in getting your own? Check out their page HERE! In the next week or so we are going to be releasing a “tasting” video where...

Feast of Fiction Creates Shokugeki Dish

The internet is a great place and filled with tons of fantastic content and creative people. The folks over at the YouTube channel Feast of Fiction create food from user’s suggestions and various works of fiction. This time, a couple of users suggested they make a dish from one of our favorite shows, Shokugeki no Soma (otherwise known as Food Wars!). From the very first episode, the character Soma creates a fake pork dish in order to save his restaurant. Essentially Soma was tasked with creating a pork dish after a group of developers destroyed his kitchen and depleted his storage of pork. His response was to craft this fake pork roast that involved potatoes and...

Japan Crate Review – Premium Box

With all the hype these days about subscription box services, you’re probably wondering what sets Japan Crate apart from the others. So in this review, we’re going to break down everything that arrived in the new Premium Japan Crate (nicknamed the Sugoi Crate). To kick it off, for around $30 a month you receive this little handy red box filled with tons of candy. Ramune Marble Gum Quick Version: This stuff was delicious. But if you want details, the flavor was just like the Kawaii Ramune drink that I’ll talk about later in the review. Another nice touch was the mild fizziness that came along with the gum. Ramune Marble Gum is...

Candy Japan Review

We’ve done quite a few reviews for subscription based services catering to those looking to have Japanese candy delivered right to their doorstep. But there are still more out there and I have made it my mission to review all of the things. This time, I decided to look into reviewing Candy Japan which offers bi-monthly deliveries for the price of $25/month. The biggest question, however, is whether or not it’s worth it, so let’s take a look. First off, we have the box and the contents because the box is an important part of presentation. There’s not a lot to look at here, but you don’t subscribe to a service for...
