We Watched Ghost in the Shell (2017) So You Don’t Have To

After much deliberation and discussions between the other writers and friends, we have finally come to a conclusion about how to feel about the new American version of Ghost in the Shell. Before reading on I should warn you that this review contains major spoilers to the film. But if you’re alright with that, then proceed on. And if you haven’t seen the 1995 film of the same name then what the hell are you doing here, stop, and do yourself a favor and go watch the original. First things first, this review isn’t going to put the movie in a positive light. Overall, I would give the movie around a 50%....

Full Ghost in the Shell Trailer Released

We’ve seen plenty of teasers for the upcoming Ghost in the Shell live action adaptation. However, today is break from what we’ve seen so far. Finally, Paramount Pictures has released a full trailer for the upcoming Ghost in the Shell film. Paramount Pictures has hosted the full trailer on their Youtube channel and you can check it out here: While we’ve seen a lot from the previous teaser trailers, the majority of the content involved action scenes without much explanation. This new trailer gives us the best look into what to expect from the film’s plot. The film seems to share a villain with Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. By villain, I mean...

Ghost in the Shell Trailer Offers a Glimpse at Scarlett Johansson as the Major

We’ve seen bits and pieces of what Scarlett Johansson will look like as the Major, but now we finally have a full trailer for the upcoming Hollywood adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. Visually, the film looks surprisingly good, although it’s hard to say whether Scarlett Johansson can do the role justice or not. One thing worth noting that seems to be making a lot of buzz today with the trailer’s release is that this film is not an adaptation of Stand Alone Complex. Instead, the film will follow the narrative of the 1995 film. For fans of the television anime, that might be somewhat jarring, but it’s good to see Hollywood attempting...

Mamoru Oshii Gives Ghost in the Shell Movie His Blessing

Personally, I really hope this film does not let us down. Ghost in the Shell is such a prized series that if this film gets messed up, Hollywood will have another black eye in terms of the adaptation department. That being said, the director of the original Ghost in the Shell movies, Mamoru Oshii, popped in the movie production to see how things were going. You can see what he had to say about the movie in the brief interview below: Saying that Scarlett Johansson has gone “above and beyond my expectations for the role” says a lot about the quality of what we can expect. For the original director to say that he...

The New Ghost in the Shell Trailers Have Arrived

Despite all the arguments and controversy about the upcoming Ghost in the Shell live-action movie, five new trailers were released this morning. Check them out below: The short 10 – 15 second clips can be a little jarring. Therefore, all thanks to redditor u/teagone he/she has laced together the clips in a more palpable format. What do you all think? Will it be as terrible as a few other American adaptations (*cough* looking at you Oldboy *cough*)? I guess we will find out.

First Look at Scarlett Johansson in Ghost in the Shell Role

In an announcement from Paramount today (shown in a tweet below), Paramount Pictures and Dreamworks released the first look at Scarlett Johansson in the role of Major Kusanagi in the upcoming live-action Ghost in the Shell movie. The first still can be seen below: I want to start off by saying I’m not even going to touch on the whole “white-washing” issue. For now, I want to try to remain positive about the upcoming film. Ghost in the Shell is a fantastic series and I want it to be good. Either the film will be really good, it will suck, or it won’t hold true to the source material which could lead to...

Nero Music Video References Ghost in the Shell

For those who don’t already listen to Nero, they are an incredible group (and I mean group, the music is live with a singer). Their use of dubstep, drum and bass, and electro with themes of dystopian futures in their lyrics really makes them stand out when compared to the typical EDM crowd. The video below is the track “Into the Night” off their latest album Beyond II Worlds which dropped on September 11th, 2015.  Check out the animated video below and catch the reference to Ghost in the Shell. With the use of a neo/cyberpunk Tokyo as the setting, the presence of androids, and the girl with blue hair and red...

New Ghost in the Shell Movie Coming to Theaters

Today, the official FUNimation YouTube channel released an English dubbed trailer to Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie, the newest film in the Ghost in the Shell franchise. With the franchise’s long history and sizable fan base it’s not surprising to see that this latest iteration is going to be dubbed for overseas distribution. In fact, there isn’t a single Ghost in the Shell release that hasn’t been dubbed and sent overseas. However, I did find myself surprised that the dub for Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie will actually see a theatrical release in North America, albeit a limited one. The trailer and the description for the video list the days of the limited...

Live-Action Ghost in the Shell Moved Forward One Month

The Hollywood live-action adaptation of the classic anime and manga series Ghost in the Shell is on the way, and while the film was originally slated for April 14, 2017, it has now been moved up to March 31, 2017. A whole month! At this point that doesn’t mean much, since the film is just under two years away from release, but it’s nice to know that we’ll be able to see the film a month earlier than expected. It was originally rumored back in October that Scarlett Johansson was offered the lead role in the film, before finally being confirmed earlier this year in January. There was a lot of speculation...

Scarlett Johansson Signs on to Hollywood’s Ghost in the Shell

Variety has just broke the news that famed actress Scarlet Johansson has officially signed on to Dreamworks’ adaptation of Ghost in The Shell. On October of last year it was reported that the actresses was offered the role, but we weren’t sure if she was going to accept the role. Now that being said this doesn’t mean the film has started production or has been greenlit, but with a name as big as Scarlet Johansson attached to the project that should make production  for the film more likely. Scarlett Johansson Allegedly Offered Lead in Hollywood Adaptation of Ghost in the Shell

It seems like DreamWorks made an offer to Scarlet Johansson the tune of $10,000,000 in order for her to play the lead role in the new Hollywood adaptation of classic anime and manga Ghost in the Shell. It was previously rumored that the studio was also in talks with Margot Robbie who you may know as Naomi Lapaglia from the 2013 film Wolf of Wallstreet — though that seems to have fallen through and Margot Robbie is now in talks to star in DC’s upcoming film adaptation of Suicide Squad instead. Considering Scarlett Johansson’s previous work as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I’d say she’s more than up to...

Margot Robbie: A Possibility for the DreamWorks’ “Ghost in the Shell” Movie

The word on the street today is that Margot Robbie is possibly going to portray Major Motoko Kusanagi. For those of you who are not familiar with her work, she was recently the female lead in the hit film The Wolf of Wall Street. The film is also being directed by Rupert Sanders, the same director behind Snow White and the Huntsman, which was actually entertaining. We will see how he handles a cyberpunk themed film. We will keep everyone updated as soon as we know more. Also we can only hope that this adaptation doesn’t totally fuck up and go beyond the source content. But maybe that’s  just me. Or maybe you all...
