Top 5 Sports Anime of 2016

Now everyone knows that 2016 was a incredibly strong year for sports anime. Which is why this list was very difficult to compile. After many arguments, a few broken friendships, some tallying, further dispute, and blood, sweat, and tears we finally came to a decision. So without further ado (buckle up everyone), here at number five we have: 5. Yuri on Ice Now I know what you are thinking, “NUMBER 5?? HOW COULD YOU? YOU F**KING MONSTERS! F**K YOU GUYS!” *Clicks unsubscribe* Now now, hear me out. Yuri on Ice was excellent but it just didn’t bring as much heat as we would have desired to see in a sports anime, unlike...

5 Anime That Make You Want to Cry

Every once in a while you just need a story that brings a tear to your eye (or at least makes you feel anxious). Is it a bit masochistic to indulge in these dramas occasionally? Sure. But you definitely need these reality checks from time to time. So without further ado, here are five anime titles or movies that reduced us to tears at one point or another. Keep in mind though, this list contains spoilers so if you have yet to see these titles, just take note that they are on this list. Also, if we forgot your favorite tear jerker, then too bad, it may be in the next list....

Top 5 Reasons to be Watching “Sweetness and Lightning”

Contrary to its Spring counterpart, the Summer 2016 anime season has a stacked lineup of solid shows. But where to start? Well allow us to make the case for why you should be checking out a favorite of ours: Sweetness and Lightning. For those who have never heard of it, Sweetness and Lightning follows a young teacher named Kohei and his toddler daughter Tsumugi. After losing his wife six months before the start of the series, Kohei is left to raise Tsumugi alone and isn’t able to provide the same quality of meals as his wife used to prepare for his daughter. As fate would have it, he happens to have a run in with one of...

Top 5 Winter 2016 Anime

As the Winter 2016 anime season is around half way over, we reflect on the current wonderful seasons of episodes that are piling out right now. Out of the large (and frankly outstanding) shows that are currently airing, here are our picks for the best (or most entertaining) shows of the Winter 2016 anime season: 5. Gate – Season 2 The second season of the modern vs. fantasy world anime Gate managed to hold up to expectations. It maintained its entertainment value through and through. At times it hit a few lull points but that’s only because, when compared to the first season, it is no longer accompanied by the world introduction aspect. 4....

New To Anime? Here is a Comprehensive Chart of Where to Begin

For those who are new to the whole anime world and are looking for a great place to start, then imgr user lukeatlook has created the perfect guide for you. What makes this chart so great is the fact that is encompasses everything across several styles, story types, and tropes. Which, when you start can be a little overwhelming at first. One thing is certain though, we definitely agree with u/lukeatlook’s suggestions and think that if you are going to get into it, let the following chart be your guide. For those that disagree and think that there are not enough older anime listed, u/lukeatlook has tackled this in his description:...

Pat’s Top 6 Games of 2015

As the year 2015 is rapidly coming to a close we reflect on what some of our favorite games have been. Now without further ado, here are the top 6 games of 2015. 6. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain I will admit that I am a complete Hideo Kojima fanboy, but that still doesn’t mean that the conclusion to the Metal Gear Solid series wasn’t completely awesome. Although the constant “intro” to each mission felt rather stale by the end of the game, overall this last installment of the series was exactly what I had hoped for. It had the classic Hideo Kojima storytelling, and goddamn did I enjoy every over-the-top...

Top 8 Most Anticipated Fall 2015 Anime

Now that everything has aired for the Fall 2015 anime season we have taken the time to collect our thoughts and think about what our favorites are so far. This list will not contain any series that are rolling over from the last season (sorry Ushio and Tora). However, series that have been on hiatus for at least a season are permitted. That being said, here they are: 8. The Asterisk War   Although Asterisk War may have had an almost identical start to that of Chivalry of a Failed Knight and falls into a magical high school category that’s become a bit over saturated, Asterisk War feels like it has a chance to be...

Five Anime You HAVE to Watch Dubbed

Since anime is a Japanese art form, there are a lot of people that insist upon watching it using Japanese audio with subtitles in order to view it closer to how it was originally intended. But for as long as anime has been around in the United States, there have been a number of companies built upon translating and dubbing it for American audiences. Nowadays I watch a lot of anime with subtitles, but I grew up watching anime with dubbed on Toonami and Adult Swim. If you’re new to anime, or you don’t usually give dubs a chance, here are five anime that you HAVE to watch dubbed. 5. Toradora Opinions on...

Ten Excellent Anime on Hulu

If you don’t want to pay for Netflix and can’t find all the anime you seek on Crunchyroll, quality anime is closer than you might have guessed. Take a look at Hulu. Their anime collection has become increasingly impressive — and you don’t even have to upgrade to Hulu Plus to view several fantastic shows! Now, these shows aren’t ordered from good to greatest, since they’re all wonderful, but here are my top ten Hulu-hosted anime! There should be something for everyone here. 1. Cowboy Bebop This space-themed, philosophically-fueled anime is comprised of 26 episodes. If you enjoy the likes of Firefly, you might love Cowboy Bebop, its predecessor. When...

Five Examples of Filler Done Right

Thanks to fan reception pushing the industry to create shorter, more coherent stories, filler is mostly a thing in the past. But it wasn’t always that way, and there are some cases where the filler was actually good. We’ve put together a list of our favorites, and some of them might surprise you. Naruto Shippuden – Kakashi’s Anbu Arc A lot of people don’t like the filler in Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, and it’s actually for a good reason. With Kakashi’s Anbu Arc, however, Pierrot actually managed to create something interesting. It might have only served to buy some time, but it actually provides an excellent backstory on Kakashi and...

Five Anime Deserving of a Live-Action Adaptation

With the impending release of the first live action Attack on Titan film (and subsequent live-action series), we began thinking of other anime series that could be suited to a live-action adaptation. We want to take a look at some other anime series we think deserve a live-action film and talk about our reasoning as to why we find these series deserving. So, here are five anime we think are deserving of a live-action film. 5. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood  Fullmetal Alchemist is a series that needs no introduction. It’s a legend in its own right and that’s one of the reasons why it needs a live-action adaptation. Yes, doing Fullmetal Alchemist would be...

Top Six Worst Anime Intros

So I want to be clear, the way we evaluated everything on this list was whether or not: A) the song was terrible. B) the animation was terrible. C) both were equally horrendous. Now we dove through a bunch of anime to search for the worst of the worst. 6. Zombie Loan I worked within the live music scene for a while and I have heard quite a plethora of terrible voices, but this opening is at the apex of awful. The animation isn’t something to stick your nose up at, but the vocals absolutely butcher the momentum that the song had built within the first 30 or so seconds. 5. Psycho-Pass II...

Top 10 Eye-Patch Anime Characters

Here at BentoByte, we have a watched a lot of anime. I mean A LOT of anime. As we watched, we’ve experienced all the tropes, all the twists, and all the types of characters. And of course we’ve started to see patterns. Today, we want to look at one of these patterns that appears across anime to all sorts of characters. An obvious pattern; characters wearing eye-patches and/or characters that have discolored eyes. This time around, we decided to just focus on the eye-patch characters. Now, we have a few opinions as to who is the best of the best is. The following gallery is the top rated characters that wear...

Staff Pick: Best Episodes of 2014

I asked the writers of Bentobyte to choose their favorite episode from shows they have reviewed or follow from 2014 and to describe why.  Here is the complete list of the very best from the Bentobyte team! WARNING THERE ARE SERIOUS SPOILERS FOR SHOWS AIRED IN 2014   Akame Ga Kill!: Episode 23 “Kill the Emperor” In a show where it felt like pretty much any character was a scene away from death, “Kill the Emperor” really managed to shock me and send me reeling with a character’s death. Of all the characters, I thought Tatsumi was probably the safest. Nope. While Tatsumi dying kind of crushed me, I’d be...

BentoByte’s 2014 Horror Picks, Video Game Edition (Part 2)

So since it’s Halloween, it seems like the perfect time to release the second part of our Horror game picks. Our last list came out around ten days ago and had some pretty great games on the list, but fortunately my list is entirely different. You can check out the games on Adam’s list from the first part here. This list will contain games that are my (Matthew Boss) personal favorites. With that in mind, let’s get started! 6. Half Life 2 (We Don’t Go To Ravenholm) I guess we’ll start the list with something of an exception. Half Life 2 wasn’t a horror game. But “We Don’t Go to...
