Nintendo’s Stock Tanks Once Everyone Realized They Don’t Own Pokemon GO

Following the release of the popular mobile game, Pokemon GO, Nintendo’s stock originally was on the receiving end of great success. However, following a press release on Friday, Nintendo admitted that they were a main investor in the game but were not realizing the main margin of the Pokemon GO profits. Up until that point, Nintendo’s stock had escalated immensely. To put things in perspective, the stock had reached ¥31, 770 which was incredible given that their stock had not performed well in past years. However, since the announcement and due to the misunderstanding on the behalf of the investors, the stock has now plummeted 18%. That roughly shakes out to...

Pokemon GO: What is Abstract Advertising?

When you think of mobile advertisements, I’m sure the first thing that came to your mind was annoying banner ads at the bottom of your screen. Or it is for me. But, in the case of Pokemon Go, Niantic Labs dropped another bomb shell this month for all the Pokemon trainers out there. Niantic Labs has now teamed up with McDonald’s to put gyms on over three thousand locations. This is where “abstract advertising” comes in. The approach that Niantic Labs is taking is considerably more intelligent and well thought out than you typical advertisement paired with mobile games. It’s a way for Niantic Labs to make money without invasive ads that are just...

Lifeless Planet Launches with Part of Profits Going to Education

Today the developer and now publishing studio, Serenity Forge, is launching their latest title, Lifeless Planet. In this exploration game, an astronaut is exploring a distant planet (taking 15 years at twice the speed of light to get there). Only upon arrival discovering that it contains an abandoned soviet town. Much like people dispute the moon landing, this mission is no hoax as he is saved by a mysterious woman from a “strange and deadly phenomenon.” So buckle up, and get ready for some great indie exploration. Check out the trailer for it below: According to Serenity Forge’s founder Zhenghua Yang, part of the proceeds for the Playstation 4 version will go...

Meet Ana, Overwatch’s Newest Hero

Well Anna isn’t actually new in terms of the Overwatch lore, however, she is the newest sniper that was announced today. Not only is she expanding the very large database of current heroes, she is also Pharah’s mother. We would love to see an Overwatch short with the two of them together (hint hint Blizzard). One thing is certain, a sniper healer with a plethora of passive skills that will be sure to mix things up following her release. Her sniper (dubbed the biotic rifle) heals, she has a sleep dart, a biotic grenade (this does damage to enimes but also heals allies), and finally a Nano Boost which is...

Team Fortress 2: Meet Your Match

“TEAM PYRO!” That’s what you will be hearing kids shouting into their microphones for days to come. Speaking of things to come, the new Team Fortress 2 update has come to Steam and brought with it a new interface for TF2 that might be overwhelming at first glance. So I’m here to make it easier on you!First I should mention is that the miracle workers over at valve created a whole new interface, and it will be the first thing you notice I’m sure. Another change that has come with this update is the introduction to a new matchmaking system. I see it as a glass half full.  A leveling system has...

The Video Games of Anime Expo 2016

Last year when I visited Anime Expo, I didn’t have the time to set down and play the video games on display because my focus was on attending panels. For Anime Expo 2016, I decided to correct that mistake, and so I set out to play as many of the games on display as possible. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get to all of them, but I played as many as I could. Many of them had short demos, which would cut you off after a certain period of time, so I didn’t get the full experience. Rather than go through and preview each and every game individually, I thought it would be...

One Piece Burning Blood Review

Over the past few years, I’ve been revisiting the anime and manga of my youth. One of the titles that I revisited and have since stuck with is One Piece. There’s a simple reason for that, it’s a damn good story, with damn good writing. The world of One Piece is vast, and so too the breadth of its characters. The story might feature a massive cast of characters, but each and every one of them seems to have a purpose in their grand world. It’s rather fitting, then, that One Piece Burning Blood — the latest video game outing for One Piece fans — would feature a large number of those characters as combatants. By now, you’ve no...

The Newest Trailer for Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness is Here

Today, publisher NIS America released a new trailer for the upcoming Psycho-Pass title, called PSYCHO-PASS: Mandatory Happiness. The trailer highlights some of the characters and situations that the player may experience during the game. The game itself launches on September 13th, 2016. As we can see from the trailer, there will be three new characters that will be added to the mix, as well as the possibility for several different story lines and endings. The story has been described as: 2112, Tokyo. Two new detectives have been assigned to the MWPSB Criminal Investigation Department Division 1. Nadeshiko Kugatachi is an Inspector whose memories were wiped, while Takuma Tsurugi is an Enforcer who is...

Top Seven Titles Announced at E3 2016

To put things lightly, this year’s E3 has not been a disappointment. (To be fair, that’s been true for the past few years.) As always, there was an absolute cavalcade of content shown at this year’s event. So much so that writing an article about all of it would get me on the path to writing a thesis. Instead, I’ll be hitting on the titles that were revealed at this year’s E3. This includes those that were rumored beforehand as I don’t consider rumors anything more than what they are. We all probably had our favorites, so let’s keep it basic. I’ve organized the list alphabetically and without any sort of...

Slim Xbox One Unveiled

Those paying attention to E3 this year were given a preview to the newly announced Xbox One. Dubbed the Xbox One S, this new version is smaller and supposedly has a higher range for its controllers. Check out the preview (and announcement) video below: Overall,  this is very similar to prior years where all the console giants develop something smaller and better than the original. Is this one really worth waiting for? Well considering how huge the current case the Xbox one has, we certainly think so. Are you willing enough to wait until August to get this new version? You probably should be, unless of course you want to...

Valkyria Chronicles Remastered Review

For a game that has been out for nearly a decade, the time came for it to finally receive an HD remastered edition for the current consoles. Albeit, it may only be on Play Station 4, but that doesn’t make the latest and polished version of Valkyria Chronicles any less astounding. In fact, if you have yet to try this game in any of its prior iterations, then we think this is the version to try. Being a huge fan of this particular design of animation and cell-shaded graphics, Valkyria Chronicles, is one of the cornerstone titles for this style. And now that the graphics are locked in at 60 frames a second (yes we...

Plastic Memories to Become a Visual Novel

Japanese game developer 5pb. has confirmed that it will be creating a visual novel adaptation to Plastic Memories! Naotaka Hayashi, writer of Steins;Gate (one of my absolute favorite series), is on board to aid in the production of the title. While we’re waiting on lots of details regarding the release, we know that Masaru Yokoyama has written a song for a trailer for the game called “eontz”. You can check out the teaser trailer below: Plastic Memories | Game Teaser PV (5pb.) by pKjd For those that missed it, Plastic Memories aired as part of the Spring 2015 anime season. The series was simulcast on Crunchyroll and is still available to stream...

A Beginner’s Guide to Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

Hello! I’m Curtis Huff, an (ex) Competitive Call of Duty player and new writer at BentoByte. As a former competitive player of Call of Duty, I’ve gotten a fair amount of questions about what I do to practice and prep for the game. Like with anything you want to learn to do, you have to start focusing on the basics. So I want to start with simple three point guide to give the most untried players a slight edge in their game play and strategies. As Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is the newest entry in the series at the time of writing, we’re going to use it as the basis for this article. But...

Stranger of Sword City Review

When a remake of one of my favorite games came out for the Playstation Vita, I broke down and bought one. In spite of how good the hardware is, after finishing that game it has been a shelf ornament. So when I was offered the opportunity to not only branch out into a genre but a chance to dust off my beloved Vita I found myself unable to refuse. The developer, Experience, is also the outfit behind Demon Gaze, and in recent years seems to be at the forefront of taking the old school DRPG in a new direction while keeping the core of the game style intact. To that end,...
