God Eater 2: Rage Burst Review

God Eater 2: Rage Burst is a monster hunter-style action RPG that surprisingly has enough variety and tasks to keep you occupied for hours. This was my first time experiencing the franchise’s game and I am glad considering how satisfied I was with the gameplay. Set three years after the events of the original God Eater Burst, you begin your journey as a newly qualified God Eater joining an elite squad known as Blood. For those that are unfamiliar with the game or anime, God Eaters are super-soldiers who wield powerful weapons known as God Arcs used to battle and destroy monsters known as Aragami. Thankfully you are able to dive...

Four Sided Fantasy Review

Publisher Serenity Forge‘s latest title, Four Sided Fantasy, certainly did not disappoint. This indie side scrolling adventure provided everything that we were looking for; dynamic gameplay elements, solid artwork and overall tone. It all makes for a fun playthrough. Let’s dive into the details of why we enjoyed it. Four Sided Fantasy is a game where the player utilizes utilizes the edges and limitations of the screen to solve puzzles.  So when the player hits a difficult patch or a seemingly unreachable jump, they can freeze the frame and use physics (shown in the image above) to cross these puzzles. This characteristic is very much like Portal except that it utilizes the fixed frame of the screen....

Lifeless Planet PS4 Edition Review

Prepare for a Seemingly Endless Walk Lifeless Planet was originally released in 2014. So why review it now? Well we figured with the recent release on Playstation 4, we would give Lifeless Planet a shot. Before we begin on the review, let’s have ourselves a history lesson. Lifeless Planet initially began its journey as a Kickstarter and originally debuted in 2014 on PC. So by Kickstarter standards, it was a success. Meaning that the game actually came out following it being successfully funded Kickstarter. The game was subsequently released on other devices, eventually being brought to the Playstation 4 by Serenity Forge. It has been 3 years; is the remastered edition of this game worth the $19.99...

The Elder Scrolls Legends Review

Finally! I’ve been waiting weeks to share this review with all of you and that time has finally come. My application to the The Elder Scrolls: Legends Beta has been replied too. To be brief, this game doesn’t disappoint. As soon as I loaded up Legends, the game welcomed me with an awesome opening sequence which hooked me right away. No matter your medium, the hook is always of great importance; it’s what makes you stay to see the rest of the package has to offer. When I first started The Elder Scrolls: Legends, I thought it might just be like any other card game. That it wouldn’t be so cinematic. Turns out I was wrong. It is...

Hyper Light Drifter Review

Hyper Light Drifter is a game that is both beautifully simple and frighteningly complex. From the start of the game, you are challenged to find your way through the 2D world as you fight off relentless monsters armed with but a sword, a gun, and your wit and creativity. The game itself offers you very little guidance by the way of text, but as resounding whole, that is not necessary as, sometimes, you may need to step back in order to figure out the best way to move forward. The game uses very little text, but that simply adds to the allure of the game as a whole. Stunning visuals...

One Piece Burning Blood Review

Over the past few years, I’ve been revisiting the anime and manga of my youth. One of the titles that I revisited and have since stuck with is One Piece. There’s a simple reason for that, it’s a damn good story, with damn good writing. The world of One Piece is vast, and so too the breadth of its characters. The story might feature a massive cast of characters, but each and every one of them seems to have a purpose in their grand world. It’s rather fitting, then, that One Piece Burning Blood — the latest video game outing for One Piece fans — would feature a large number of those characters as combatants. By now, you’ve no...

Valkyria Chronicles Remastered Review

For a game that has been out for nearly a decade, the time came for it to finally receive an HD remastered edition for the current consoles. Albeit, it may only be on Play Station 4, but that doesn’t make the latest and polished version of Valkyria Chronicles any less astounding. In fact, if you have yet to try this game in any of its prior iterations, then we think this is the version to try. Being a huge fan of this particular design of animation and cell-shaded graphics, Valkyria Chronicles, is one of the cornerstone titles for this style. And now that the graphics are locked in at 60 frames a second (yes we...

Stranger of Sword City Review

When a remake of one of my favorite games came out for the Playstation Vita, I broke down and bought one. In spite of how good the hardware is, after finishing that game it has been a shelf ornament. So when I was offered the opportunity to not only branch out into a genre but a chance to dust off my beloved Vita I found myself unable to refuse. The developer, Experience, is also the outfit behind Demon Gaze, and in recent years seems to be at the forefront of taking the old school DRPG in a new direction while keeping the core of the game style intact. To that end,...

Saints Row IV Review

Hey, I’m guessing you are reading this review because it said Saints Row and you probably guessed it’s about the video game known as Saints Row IV. You guessed correctly. I will be covering and evaluating key points on this game review of Saints Row IV. Saints Row IV is an open world action game released in 2013, and at the time of writing the game is currently free on the Xbox 360 and will be until April 30 of this year. I will playing a bunch of the free games with Xbox Gold and seeing whether or not it is worth the download. Saints Row IV was developed by...

Deadly Tower of Monsters Review

When Deadly Tower of Monsters was announced, it had a lot going for it. There was plenty of charm, and even more b-movie references. As a film buff, I was excited to see what ACE Team could do with in their latest outing. After all, there’s so much you can do when you’re working with a classic science fiction style. Unfortunately, it takes more than charming humor to make a good game. To have a good game, you need to have good gameplay. While Deadly Tower of Monsters has a compelling setting, that’s about all it has going for it as the rest of the game is brought down by its many faults. As soon as you...

What Does 2016 Have in Store for Destiny?

Destiny’s final expansion, The Taken King, has been out for a few months now. Most people have probably worked their way through a majority of the base content, and for a game that’s heavily inspired by MMOs, that can become a problem. Destiny might not exactly be an MMO, but thanks to the way that the game is designed, a lot of people like to think of it as one. I’m one of those people. Ever since the game was originally demonstrated at E3 back in 2013, it was touted as being a hybrid FPS-MMO for consoles. To what extent was unknown at the time, but just over a year...

Pat’s Top 6 Games of 2015

As the year 2015 is rapidly coming to a close we reflect on what some of our favorite games have been. Now without further ado, here are the top 6 games of 2015. 6. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain I will admit that I am a complete Hideo Kojima fanboy, but that still doesn’t mean that the conclusion to the Metal Gear Solid series wasn’t completely awesome. Although the constant “intro” to each mission felt rather stale by the end of the game, overall this last installment of the series was exactly what I had hoped for. It had the classic Hideo Kojima storytelling, and goddamn did I enjoy every over-the-top...
