E3 2017 draws to a close, and with it end the incredible announcements from top gaming companies such as Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. Though this year may not have been as exciting as previous years, some great announcements were made that fulfilled the wants and desires of many a video game fan. In no particular order, here’s the list of announcements we’re most excited for: 1. Kirby for Nintendo Switch We just can’t get enough of Kirby, and apparently Nintendo can’t either! Our favorite little pink blob returns, starring in his own game for the Nintendo Switch. Kirby (working title) features improved graphics and a buddy system returning to the...

Ariana Grande Joins the Cast of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius

In a press release today it was revealed that Ariana Grande (of all people) will be joining the ranks of characters in the Final Fantasy installment, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. For those who have not heard of it before, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is a free-to-play mobile game that originally debuted (worldwide) in June of 2016.  Ariana herself has stated, “it is an honor for my Pixel Art character and my music to be included in the new “Final Fantasy Brave Exvius” game, a mainstay in the Japanese pop culture, which I absolutely adore.” As an added result, Ariana Grande’s song “Touch It” will be making an appearance in the game. Not the actual...

Hikaru Utada to Return for Kingdom Hearts III Theme

If you’ve played through the main entries in the Kingdom Hearts series. then you know that Hikaru Utada is a big part of the games. Her music has been featured throughout the series, but majority of the games outside of Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II use remixes of the music from those games. It’s a bit of a tradition. If you’ve seen Rogue One recently, then it’s an apt comparison to say that it’s similar to the way Disney is handling the Star Wars franchise. Hikaru Utada is a bit like the crawl and a John Williams score for Kingdom Hearts, which is to say that when Hikaru Utada gets...

Kingdom Hearts HD Remix Series Coming to PS4

The Kingdom Hearts HD Remix series is about to make the jump to PS4, which is great news for both new fans of the series and fans who want to relive the franchise before jumping into the third main entry in the series. Rather than port over Kingdom Hearts HD Remix 1.5 and 2.5 separately, Square Enix will be releasing the games together for the PS4 as Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix. Both games will come on one disc, and include the same content as the PS3 versions. So if you’re satisfied with your PS3 copy of the game, then no need to upgrade, although there’s probably a...

Nintendo Reveals its Newest Console, The Nintendo Switch

After months of speculation and with Nintendo abandoning the WiiU, the biggest question we have had was what is the Nintendo NX? Well Nintendo finally released their answer, the Nintendo Switch. Check out the trailer for it below: As someone who is hyper critical of Nintendo (I feel like they haven’t done much innovation in years), the newest console looks promising. Having the ability to play Skyrim on the go? Sweet. At least now this may mean that they are finally taking a step towards contending with the other consoles. Hopefully this means that Nintendo won’t feel like that childhood friend that was awesome but never went anywhere. It is interesting...

Mario Appears in Promo for 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games

Before we dip into the content here, I have a spiel for you. If you don’t want it and just want the news about the 2020 games in Tokyo, skip down to the bold text. Here at BentoByte, we try to cultivate a culture of understanding and curiosity when it comes to cultures there are different from are own. We believe understanding different perspectives is not only something that is important in modern society, it’s a path towards a sort of global empathy that the world desperately needs. That being said, every two years there comes a certain unique time. A time of fun and thoughtless pride in one’s country. A time...

Criminal Girls 2: Party Favors Not to be Released in Germany

According to a recent press release by NIS, it appears as though their upcoming title Criminal Girls 2: Party Favors will not be released in Germany. This is due to the fact that the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (the German equivalent of the US’ ESRB) has refused to give the game a rating. Since there can be not rating attributed to the game itself, it therefore cannot be released (sold at retail or advertised). That being said, the game will still be available in other parts of the world. This includes other European countries (with a rating of PEGI 16) and naturally in North America (since we allow pretty much everything at an M rating)....

After a month or so of waiting, details for the new upcoming Professor Layton have finally been announced! Here is what we know so far. The new game will be called Lady Layton: Millionaire King Ariadne’s Conspiracy, and will follow the story of Professor Layton’s daughter Katriel Layton and her talking dog assistant named Sharo. Katriel and Sharo will be on a journey through London to find her father, who has mysteriously disappeared.  But it wouldn’t be a Professor Layton game without some odd detective work here and there. From something as mundane as trying to find someones lost cat, to solving several murder cases. The game is slated for a spring...

Nintendo’s Stock Tanks Once Everyone Realized They Don’t Own Pokemon GO

Following the release of the popular mobile game, Pokemon GO, Nintendo’s stock originally was on the receiving end of great success. However, following a press release on Friday, Nintendo admitted that they were a main investor in the game but were not realizing the main margin of the Pokemon GO profits. Up until that point, Nintendo’s stock had escalated immensely. To put things in perspective, the stock had reached ¥31, 770 which was incredible given that their stock had not performed well in past years. However, since the announcement and due to the misunderstanding on the behalf of the investors, the stock has now plummeted 18%. That roughly shakes out to...

Pokemon GO: What is Abstract Advertising?

When you think of mobile advertisements, I’m sure the first thing that came to your mind was annoying banner ads at the bottom of your screen. Or it is for me. But, in the case of Pokemon Go, Niantic Labs dropped another bomb shell this month for all the Pokemon trainers out there. Niantic Labs has now teamed up with McDonald’s to put gyms on over three thousand locations. This is where “abstract advertising” comes in. The approach that Niantic Labs is taking is considerably more intelligent and well thought out than you typical advertisement paired with mobile games. It’s a way for Niantic Labs to make money without invasive ads that are just...

In this exploration game, an astronaut is exploring a distant planet (taking 15 years at twice the speed of light to get there). Only upon arrival discovering that it contains an abandoned soviet town. Check out the trailer for it below: According to Serenity Forge’s founder Zhenghua Yang, part of the proceeds for the Playstation 4 version will go...

Meet Ana, Overwatch’s Newest Hero

Well Anna isn’t actually new in terms of the Overwatch lore, however, she is the newest sniper that was announced today. Not only is she expanding the very large database of current heroes, she is also Pharah’s mother. We would love to see an Overwatch short with the two of them together (hint hint Blizzard). One thing is certain, a sniper healer with a plethora of passive skills that will be sure to mix things up following her release. Her sniper (dubbed the biotic rifle) heals, she has a sleep dart, a biotic grenade (this does damage to enimes but also heals allies), and finally a Nano Boost which is...

Team Fortress 2: Meet Your Match

“TEAM PYRO!” That’s what you will be hearing kids shouting into their microphones for days to come. Speaking of things to come, the new Team Fortress 2 update has come to Steam and brought with it a new interface for TF2 that might be overwhelming at first glance. So I’m here to make it easier on you!First I should mention is that the miracle workers over at valve created a whole new interface, and it will be the first thing you notice I’m sure. Another change that has come with this update is the introduction to a new matchmaking system. I see it as a glass half full.  A leveling system has...

The Video Games of Anime Expo 2016

Last year when I visited Anime Expo, I didn’t have the time to set down and play the video games on display because my focus was on attending panels. For Anime Expo 2016, I decided to correct that mistake, and so I set out to play as many of the games on display as possible. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get to all of them, but I played as many as I could. Many of them had short demos, which would cut you off after a certain period of time, so I didn’t get the full experience. Rather than go through and preview each and every game individually, I thought it would be...

As we can see from the trailer, there will be three new characters that will be added to the mix, as well as the possibility for several different story lines and endings. The story has been described as: 2112, Tokyo. Two new detectives have been assigned to the MWPSB Criminal Investigation Department Division 1. Nadeshiko Kugatachi is an Inspector whose memories were wiped, while Takuma Tsurugi is an Enforcer who is...
