It’s been a rough month for fans of Studio Ghibli. On August 3rd, during an interview on the Tokyo Broadcasting System station, Toshio Suzuki stated that the company would be pausing production to rebuild itself. Mr. Suzuki, a producer at Studio Ghibli, was merely referring to a restructuring of Studio Ghibli’s current structure and business model. However this interview was misinterpreted by Western Media facets, stating that Mr. Suzuki had said that the company was going to be closing, causing western fans of the studio great stress and confusion as to why the renowned studio would be shutting down.
Studio Ghibli has produced numerous anime films which are now considered to be classics, such as My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, and recently even delved into gaming with its involvement in Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. With such a strong history and loyal fan base, it’s no wonder that the internet was filled with distraught and confused fans wondering how the studio could be going under. Such thoughts were justifiable, as Studio Ghibli has made clear now that it will not be shutting down and the rumors were simply given too much traction by the media. So fortunately, after a small break, fans of the studio can still expect to see more Studio Ghibli productions in the future.
