Today I’m very excited to be bringing you guys a look at Kotobukiya’s Jubilee Marvel Bishoujo Statue. The statue is part of Kotobukiya’s somewhat large collection of Bishoujo statues designed by master illustrator Shunya Yamashita, a well-known Japanese illustrator and game designer, made famous from his unique yet beautiful female character designs. The statue itself is beautifully sculpted by none other than Gotaro Takeuchi (Atelier Bamboo),the man responsible for many of Kotobukiya’s Bishoujo and Justice League line of statues. Now with formalities out of the way, let’s get to the review.
First of all, to be completely honest, when I first was told I was going to be receiving a review sample of Kotobukiya’s Jubilee Marvel Bishoujo Statue, I wasn’t too excited. I say this not because I am not a fan of Kotobukiya’s work, but because I just wasn’t familiar with the character. So I didn’t really know what to expect. That being said, if my introduction didn’t make it obvious enough already, I actually really like the statue. Which I think really says a lot about Kotobukiya’s craftsmanship and quality. I mean it looks absolutely fantastic; from the way the hair was sculpted to just the little details in the face, clothing and even the base she stands on . It really does give me a good sense of just who this character is, even though I now little to nothing about her.
As for the quality of the paint, I found it to be above average, with no visible mistakes. The shading found on her legs, stomach, neck and face really gives her skin a more realistic tone without being too obvious.
Before I give my closing remarks, I’d like to give you some of the basic information of the statue. The 1/7 scale statue stands at around 220 cm (8.5 in) and comes with only two accessories, which are 2 pairs of her iconic sunglasses.
The statue and its base is made from what feels like some high quality PVC and ABS, which all comes in a nicely packaged and beautifully illustrated box.
Now, as I said in the beginning, I love the statue. With such fantastic details in the sculpting and a magnificent paint job, who wouldn’t? The real question is if the statue is worth buying? I believe if you are a fan of the X-Men and/or you collect figures/statues, this is a no brainer. Buy it. It’d be a great addition to anyone’s collection.
I would like to thank Kotobukiya for making this review possible. They are wonderful people for giving us this opportunity. So if you don’t mind, go check out there Facebook.
